If you have ever been lucky enough to travel to New York, you probably realise just how expensive this city can be. This is definitely the case if you prefer to stay in a part of Manhattan that is close to all of the main tourist attractions. In this article though, we are going to take a look at some alternative suggestions for accommodation in Manhattan for all budgets that will not end up breaking the bank. We will start by checking out the option of staying uptown in Manhattan. Once you get above Central Park, you start to venture a little farther away from the most expensive areas. In fact, it seems that the farther uptown you travel, the cheaper room rates become. By the time you get to the 80th Street and above, you are actually in very reasonable territory. You may need to travel to get to the downtown areas but you can rely upon the New York Subway system for this. I have used this on every occasion when I have travelled to The Big Apple and let me assure you that it is actually safer than the London Underground nowadays. For even more reasonable accommodation rates, why not consider staying in a neighbouring borough? Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island all provide better value for money than you can expect to find in Manhattan itself, so this may well be worth a look on your part.
